Calgary, Alberta, Canada (AHN) – New research says that present-day mammals ruled the earth after the dinosaurs, but that they were twice as big as they are today.

Based on a massive database of fossil records compiled over two years, scientists conclude that 65 million years ago after dinosaurs disappeared, the world’s rhinos, elephants and other large mammals took their place but were twice as big as they are today, weighing as much as 17 tons.

This new research on fossils appeared Thursday on the journal Science and was funded by a U.S. National Science Foundation grant, that brought together scientists from all over the world to determine how large mammals grew across the globe and to analyze their patterns of growth as time passed.

The study found that since there were no more competing dinosaurs, mammals ate a lot of abundant vegetables and grew huge fending off predators and staying warm.

The study is not without its critics however, foremost of whom is Donald Prothero, author of After the Dinosaurs: The Age of Mammals, who says that he is worried the study is making generalized statements based on just a few of the largest lineages.

Prothero claims that the fossil survey used in the study lacks enough detail to support the statistical analysis done in the study, which finds the mammal size limit significant.

Biologist John Alroy of Australia’s Macquarie University is more skeptical of the findings. In a public e-mailed statement he said, “I don’t believe the results, which are actually inconsistent with the data they show.”

Your music business plan can be as simple or as complicated as you want it to be. In general, the best music business plans are ones that are well researched and have been thought through and through before implementation. So doing your homework is a must. Absolutely necessary.

Once you’ve made it this far and you’ve determined what your bands’ ultimate goals are, it’s time to go through the process of researching what’s needed to begin to make them happen. Take it one step at a time and complete each goal one by one like walking on stepping stones to cross the stream. Perform each task you’ve planned to complete in order and you’ll slowly find that your building blocks (remember how fun Lego was when you were a kid?) will naturally take you to the completion of your ultimate goal. Music business success!

Now I realize that some of the musicians in the world really have no head for the music business and if this is you, you’ve got to get your head out of the ground. There’s no room for ostrich style musicians here in the world of independent music. They really do get left in the dust. You NEED to do everything to you can to market your music to your fans. Believe me they want to be sold to. They already love your shows and your music so why not learn a little bit about how to properly get it in their hands. You just might make a little money to be able to do it again and again and… well you get the point.

If you’re a musician and you’re not doing everything you can to learn more about your business believe me your neighbor is and his band is the one getting the gigs that you can’t or worse yet, don’t even try to get. You don’t want to be left behind so hop to it. No time for excuses…

Los Angeles, CA, United States (AHN) – “Avatar” fans are heading back to Pandora, in a few years at least. Academy Award-winning director James Cameron has agreed to make “Avatar 2″ and “Avatar 3″ his next films, with the first sequel due for release in 2014.

Cameron, who had been enticed by other projects such as a “Cleopatra” remake starring Angelina Jolie, will instead make the “Avatar” sequels his top priority. The news was announced by Fox execs Jim Gianopulos and Tom Rothman Wednesday.

Cameron will begin work on the scripts early next year with production to begin later in 2011. It will be decided if the films will be shot back-to-back after the scripts are completed.

“With two new films on the drawing boards, my company and I are embarking on an epic journey with our partners at Twentieth Century Fox,” said director James Cameron. “Our goal is to meet and exceed the global audience’s expectations for the richness of Avatar’s visual world and the power of the storytelling.”

“In the second and third films, which will be self contained stories that also fulfill a greater story arc, we will not back off the throttle of Avatar’s visual and emotional horsepower, and will continue to explore its themes and characters, which touched the hearts of audiences in all cultures around the world,” Cameron continued. “I’m looking forward to returning to Pandora, a world where our imaginations can run wild.”

Upon its release last year, “Avatar” became the highest grossing film of all-time, earning nearly $2.8 billion at the worldwide box office. It also earned three Academy Awards and became the biggest-selling Blu-ray of all time. A new collector’s edition of “Avatar” on Blu-ray releases next month.

“Avatar 2″ is expected to hit theaters in December 2014, while the sequel is targeted for December 2015.
