Christina Aguilera earns triple the salary of other coaches on “The Voice”

Anthony Jones – Celebrity News Service Reporter

Los Angeles, CA, United States (Celebrity News Service) – It may have come as a surprise when NBC’s “The Voice” was able to acquire superstar talent like Christina Aguilera for its inaugural season. But she doesn’t come without a super hefty price tag.

Aguilera reportedly rakes in $225,000 per episode. That’s three times more than the amount earned by fellow coaches Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, and Cee Lo Green, who earn $75,000 per episode.

Luckily, it seems like she’s worth it, as her star power helped the show go on to become an unlikely hit for NBC and the #1-rated debut series of the season.

All four judges are expected to return when “The Voice” debuts its second season during midseasons, including an episode following the Super Bowl.

So what do you think? Is Christina worth the other three coaches put together?

Heather Doerr – Celebrity News Service Intern

LA, CA, United States (Celebrity News Service) – Thousands of people are sure to be disappointed that Adele’s last nine shows of her tour have been canceled-and the singer is one of them. Adele has just learned that her laryngitis is more severe than she first thought and requires her to completely rest her voice.

Adele was hopeful that she would begin performing again on June 4 in San Francisco, but is now following doctor’s orders.

She has responded to her condition by saying “I’m really frustrated. I’m so sorry. See you soon, love Adele.”

The Meditation of Sitar

The Meditation of Sitar

For me, its got to be the drone. That familiar note, heard so many ways, but yet somehow always the same. Whether its the chanting of the Buddhist monks in the high mountains of Tibet, or the drone of the Aboriginal Didjeridu proclaiming its voice into the Australian outback, or the mesmerizing sound of the sitar, its all somehow the same and connected. Its something primal, recognizable, something that beckons to our core, the indescribable feeling of ultimate peaceful Zen.

The Sitar is the perfect example of this Universal note. As I listen to Ravi Shankar begin his performance, he begins with this droning sound, the sympathetic note that so defines this beautiful Indian music. He is accompanied during this concert with a Sur Bahar player, which is a deeper bass version of the Sitar, and a Tampura player providing the sympathetic drone. Also joining them are two tabla players.

After establishing the drone, we are lead on a journey as the Sitar notes play along, like a butterfly carelessly flittering in the wind. The notes just seem to naturally fall into place, and the bends add a sense of emotion and feeling. Like the Sitar is telling its sad tale of suffering and hardship. It is truly an instrument with a voice. At a seemingly non-redetermined moment, the tabla begin to add a rhythmic sense to the music. The beat is not what you might think of as steady and predictable. Instead, its full of twists and turns like you are traveling sometimes quickly and sometimes at great clip through the hot streets of Calcutta. The sitar swells and subsides with the mood of the tabla, all the musicians somehow completely connected in a web of the perfect tonal meditative moment, yet each exploring his or her own path of musical exploration; it is truly improvisational music, and I’m sure no two performances are quite the same.

I am filled with a feeling of peace, as the sound of this strange yet somehow familiar music allowed my mind to fill with images of mythical creatures, beautiful and strange lands, and wonderful and mysterious people. I begin to think of that Universal sound again. I can almost hear a didjeridoo player up there and realize he is fitting in just nicely. My Tibetan monks join in. Now we have a Global jam!

NBC’s “The Voice” features new interactive audition experience

Anne Lu – Celebrity News Service Contributor

Los Angeles, CA, United States (CNS) – NBC is giving viewers an audition experience right in their own homes. The new series “The Voice,” which aims to search for the best voices in the U.S., allows hopeful viewers to showcase their talents online by using a new interactive tool.

The upcoming show’s casting team will be holding “regular” casting calls nationwide, but in an effort to reach more talents, the show also uses “The Voice Online Audition Tool,” which allows them to find potential contestants via the use of a personal computer and a webcam.

But unlike other audition calls which require interested parties to just submit their tapes and wait for updates, this interactive new process promises immediate feedback. The tool records performances before rating them on a scale of 1 to 10 based on the pitch and expression.

After the submission, the eligible performances will be featured on NBC.com, and the fans can rate and share the audition videos via social networking websites.

Alternative Programming and Production Exec VP Paul Telegdy said, “This unique interactive online experience that provides immediate feedback and scoring is an evolution in the basting process. This technology will exponentially expand our reach but of course, only the best of the best will make it on the show.”

“The possibility that the next global superstar could be discovered through this innovative tool is incredibly exciting to all of us involved.”

Interested viewers may submit their best performances until March 1.

“The Voice,” based on Holland’s top-rated vocal talent discovery show “The Voice of Holland,” features four famous musicians searching for the best voices in America. The ultimate winner will receive a recording contract and a $100,000 grand prize. Carson Daly will host.

Former homeless man turned celebrity in rehab

Hansen Sinclair – AHN News Reporter

Los Angeles, CA, United States (AHN) – From rags to (almost) riches to rehab, Ted Williams, the homeless man with the “golden voice” who became an Internet sensation, voluntarily checked into substance abuse rehab for his alcohol and drug addiction after admitting he was still drinking, according to a spokesperson for “The Dr. Phil Show.”

Williams, 53, has been in the spotlight since a reporter videotaped him panhandling on the roadside. Once the video went viral, Williams was offered numerous announcing jobs, including a contract with Kraft Foods.

He said in several interviews he had been sober for two years after years of abusing drugs and alcohol, a problem that tore him away from his family and left him homeless.

His decision to enter rehab came after he had a one-on-one discussion with Dr. Phil McGraw, host of the daytime talk show.

Show officials did not say what facility Williams had entered.

Alicia Keys Tickets – Alicia Keys Concerts Tickets for UK Fans

Alicia Augello Cook (born January 25, 1981), better known by her stage name Alicia Keys, is an American recording artist, musician and actress. At age seven, Keys began to play classical music on the piano. She attended Professional Performing Arts School and graduated at 16 as valedictorian. She later attended Columbia University before dropping out to pursue her music career.

Alicia Keys has been confirmed as being in a relationship with rapper Swizz Beatz. Mashonda explains in a video that her husband, Swizz Beatz, was having a relationship with Keys while they were still married with a child

An accomplished pianist, Keys incorporates piano into a majority of her songs and often writes about love, heartbreak and female empowerment. She was inspired by several musicians, including Prince, Nina Simone, Barbra Streisand, Marvin Gaye, Quincy Jones, Donny Hathaway and Stevie Wonder. Keys’ style is rooted in gospel and vintage soul music, supplemented by bass and programmed drumbeats. She heavily incorporates classical piano with R&B, soul and jazz into her music, but began experimenting with other genres, including pop and rock, in her third studio album, As I Am. Patrick Huguenin of the New York Daily News stated that her incorporation of classical piano riffs contributed to her breakout success. Jet magazine states she “thrives” by touching her fans with “piano mastery, words and elodious voice”.

The Independent described her style as consisting of “crawling blues coupled with a hip-hop backbeat”, noting that her lyrics “rarely stray from matters of the heart”. Blender magazine referred to her as “the first new pop artist of the millennium who was capable of changing music.”

Keys playing the piano while performing, surrounded by three backing vocalistsKeys has a vocal range of a contralto, which spans three octaves. Often referred to as the “Princess of Soul”, Keys has been commended as having a strong, raw and impassioned voice; others feel that her voice is “emotionally manufactured” at times and that she pushes her voice out of its natural range. Keys’ songwriting is often criticized for lack of depth, which has led to her writing abilities being called limited. Her lyrics have been called generic, clichéd and that her songs revolve around generalities. Greg Kot of the Chicago Tribune feels that she “[pokes] around for multi-format hits rather than trying to project any sort of artistic vision”. Diversely, Jon Pareles of Blender magazine stated that the musical composition of her songs makes up for their lyrical weakness, while Gregory Stephen Tate of The Village Voice compared Keys’ writing and production to 1970s music.

Alicia Keys has announced plans to tour the UK. The tour will follow the release of Keys’s new album, The Element of Freedom, which is due out internationally December 15. Tickets for the first round of shows go on sale November 30.
