Shock jock Howard Stern near deal as judge on ‘America’s Got Talent’

Los Angeles, CA, United States (AHN) – Radio shock jock Howard Stern is near a deal with NBC to become a judge on the network’s reality competition show “America’s Got Talent.”

Under the deal, which is in negotiations, Stern would earn about $15 million a year. Joining co-judges Howie Mandel and Sharon Osbourne, he would take Piers Morgan’s seat at the judge’s table.

Morgan is steeping down to focus on his CNN evening talk show.

“America’s Got Talent” is among TV’s most popular show in the summer, when it typically airs.

Stern, known for his outspoken and bold interview style, and his frequent lewd commentaries, would continue to air his radio show, heard exclusively on Sirius XM Radio.

Stern, based in New York, may just be able to stay put. NBC is mulling moving the talent show, now shooting in Los Angeles, to the Big Apple.

Eddie Murphy to host 84th Academy Awards

Los Angeles, CA, United States (Celebrity News Service) – It’s official. After rumors started to circulate last week that Eddie Murphy was in talks to host next year’s Oscars telecast, he will officially be taking Academy Awards hosting duties for the first time.

ABC made the announcement Tuesday. The 84th Academy Awards are being produced by Don Mischer and Brett Ratner. Ratner also just so happens to have directed Murphy in his upcoming comedy “Tower Heist.”

“Eddie is a comedic genius, one of the greatest and most influential live performers ever,” said Ratner. “With his love of movies, history of crafting unforgettable characters and his iconic performances – especially on stage – I know he will bring excitement, spontaneity and tremendous heart to the show Don and I want to produce in February.”

In his statement, Murphy made a point to name the long list of hosts that have become a part of the Oscars legacy, including Billy Crystal, Whoopi Goldberg, and Steve Martin. Funnily enough, he didn’t mention last year’s widely-panned hosts Anne Hathaway and James Franco.

“I am enormously honored to join the great list of past Academy Award hosts, from Hope and Carson to Crystal, Martin and Goldberg, among others,” said Murphy. “I’m looking forward to working with Brett and Don on creating a show that is enjoyable for both the fans at home and for the audience at the Kodak Theatre, as we all come together to celebrate and recognize the great film contributions and collaborations from the past year.”

Murphy is an Oscar nominee himself, having earned a nod for Best Supporting Actor in 2006 for “Dreamgirls.”

The 84th Academy Awards will air live on ABC Sunday, February 26th, 2012.

Britney Spears’ “Femme Fatale Tour” to air in November

Los Angeles, CA, United States (Celebrity News Service) – Britney Spears is wrapping up the first North American leg of her hit “Femme Fatale Tour” and, if she didn’t make it to your town, worry not. The tour was filmed last weekend and is set to air in November.

The premium entertainment channel EPIX, who also premiered the Black Eyed Peas’ “E.N.D. World Tour” on television last year, filmed Spears’ show, which sees her performing her latest Top 10 hits “Hold It Against Me,” “Till the World Ends,” and “I Wanna Go,” in HD in both 2D and 3D.

Spears was the first to unveil the news via Twitter over the weekend, confirming that she would be filming the shows during her stop in Toronto’s Air Canada Centre and adding that “everything looks better in 3D.”

“I am so excited that all my fans will be able to see my ‘Femme Fatale’ tour on EPIX. I am really proud of this show and I want all of my fans to see it,” Spears said in a statement.

“EPIX is dedicated to bringing fans closer to the talent they love and we are pleased to connect this truly iconic American star to her large and passionate fan base,” said EPIX president and CEO Mark Greenberg.

“Britney Spears: Femme Fatale,” her first televised concert since 2004′s “The Onyx Hotel Tour” for Showtime, is set to premiere in November on EPIX, EPIX on Demand, and EpixHD.com.

‘Real Housewives’ husband Russell Armstrong commits suicide

Los Angeles, CA, United States (Celebrity News Service) – “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star Russell Armstrong has died of an apparent suicide.

Armstrong, whose struggling relationship with wife Taylor Armstrong was aired throughout the Bravo show’s first season, was found dead Monday night in his bedroom in his home in Los Angeles, after he apparently hanged himself, reports TMZ.

Police officials say they responded to Armstrong’s home on Mulholland Drive after they received an emergency call from a roommate who found Armstrong’s body.

No suicide note was found on the scene.

TMZ reported that some of the cast of “Real Housewives” were being told of his death, including Kyle Richards and Lisa Vanderpump, who were said to be “speechless” and “distraught” over the news.

Their difficult marriage continued to make headlines way after the show’s first season ended.

Taylor Armstrong, who shared 5-year-old daughter Kennedy with her husband, filed for divorce in July and had revealed to People magazine that her six-year marriage was full of physical and verbal abuse.

“I felt like I was dying inside,” she said, adding that the finalization of filing for divorce has brought her “some sense of peace.”

Russell Armstrong later went on the defense.

“Did I push her? Yes, maybe things happened in the heat of the moment, but it was during a time in our lives that was not characteristic of who we were,” he said. “This show has literally pushed us to the limit.”

The new season of “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” is scheduled to premiere on Sept. 15.

“Dirty Dancing” gets remake from “High School Musical” director Kenny Ortega

Los Angeles, CA, United States (Celebrity News Service) – With the upcoming “Footloose” remake hitting theaters in the fall, Hollywood is taking on yet another remake of a dance-filled 80′s classic: this time, “Dirty Dancing.”

Director Kenny Ortega, who was the choreographer on the original 1987 “Dirty Dancing” which starred Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey, will now helm the remake. He also directed the “High School Musical” films and Michael Jackson’s “This Is It” film and show.

Debra Martin Chase, producer of the “Princess Diaries,” “Cheetah Girls,” and “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” films, will produce alongside Ortega.

According to the press release from Lionsgate films, “the new film is a celebration of one of the most beloved movies of all time. Paying tribute to the emotional excitement of first love, the thrills and complexity of sexual awakening, the soul stirring power of dance, and the classic tale of teenage Baby’s forbidden romance with Johnny Castle, the remake will incorporate classic songs from the 1960s, hits from the original film and brand new compositions. “

“The opportunity to direct ‘Dirty Dancing’ is like returning home for me,” said director Kenny Ortega. “Growing up in the 60s on the dance floor helped define me as a person and as an artist. I am looking forward to assembling a great creative team and an exciting cast to bring ‘Dirty Dancing’ to the screen for a new generation.”

“Dirty Dancing” has spawned the 2004 prequel “Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights,” a stage show with plans to open on Broadway, and was released to Blu-ray for the first time earlier this year.

Rocco DiSpirito hosts celebrity-filled ‘Dinner Party’ for Bravo

Los Angeles, CA, United States (Celebrity News Service) – Celebrity chef Rocco DiSpirito left the restaurant business for entertaining at home. Now, his A-list dinner parties are the setting for TV’s hottest new cooking competition premiering on Bravo Wednesday.

DiSpirito’s latest foray in television, after making one of the first leaps of bringing reality cameras into the culinary world with “The Restaurant,” sees him play host and judge at his own dinner party, where three chefs compete to serve the best food and ambiance for a weekly $20,000 prize.

DiSpirito has guested plenty of times on Bravo’s signature competition “Top Chef,” and now he gets to sit at the head of the judge’s table each week with his own show for the network, which also used to air reruns of “The Restaurant” in years past.

“Bravo and I have been looking for a project that we can work on together,” DiSpirito told CNS. “The idea does come from my real fondness for entertaining at home and the fact that I entertain at home all the time now. I got out of the professional restaurant business in 2005. I’m a home cook now.”

Between hosting, judging and dispensing invaluable advice about cooking and entertaining, Rocco will definitely have his plate full on “Rocco’s Dinner Party.”

His dinner parties, of course, will also be inhabited by some very recognizable faces each week, including Raven-Symone, Liza Minelli, Cat Deeley, Alan Cumming, and more.

“I’d love to pretend that my friends are as fabulous as the guests we have on the show every week,” DiSpirito says. “But many of the guests are friends that I’ve cooked for in the past.”

Katie Couric officially signs onto ABC for syndicated talk show

Los Angeles, CA, United States (Celebrity News Service) – Well that didn’t take long. After signing off the air as anchor of “CBS Evening News with Katie Couric” just late last month, Katie Couric just signed a multi-platform deal with ABC to bring a new show to the air in 2012.

After reported talks with both her former homes at CBS and NBC, Couric will head a new syndicated dayime show for ABC, which is set to debut in September 2012, and will also join the ABC News team.

Couric will beef up ABC’s upcoming daytime line-up which is set to include the new programs “The Chew” and “The Revolution,” and popular soap “General Hospital.”

The announcement was made today by Anne Sweeney, president, Disney/ABC Television Group and co-chair, Disney Media Group. “We look forward to having Katie join the best News team in the business, and to working with her to create a dynamic and successful talk show franchise,” she said.

The show will executive produced by Katie’s former NBC boss Jeff Zucker. Eight ABC-owned stations around the country have already been ordered to clear their 3pm time slot for Katie’s new show.

“I’m very happy to be returning to the network where I began my career as a desk assistant in 1979,” Katie Couric said in a statement. It is tremendously exciting to have the creative freedom to develop my own show with Anne Sweeney, the Disney/ABC TV Group and Jeff, and to contribute to such a vibrant, innovative news division. I can’t wait to be part of this incredibly talented, visionary team.”

Paris Hilton lets fans see the real her on Oxygen’s “The World According to Paris”

Los Angeles, CA, United States (AHN Entertainment) – If you’ve seen the pink-wearing, baby-voiced, and seemingly dim star of “The Simple Life” or “Paris Hilton’s My BFF,” well, you don’t actually know Paris Hilton. She admits to hiding behind an exaggerated caricature of herself on those shows and is ready to show fans the real her for the first time on her new Oxygen show, “The World According to Paris.”

“Just because ‘The Simple Life’ is where I started and where everyone saw me first, they assume that’s who I am everyday of my life,” Paris Hilton told CNS. “It’s not.”

On her new show, she’ll answer the question you might have been wondering in recent months: just what is Paris Hilton up to these days? Keeping a seemingly low profile, Hilton has been keeping herself out of the tabloids while working on her business empire and its international demands.

But while on her other “reality” shows, Hilton was just shy of reading off a cue card, “The World According to Paris” shows viewers, among other things, Paris the friend, the daughter, the girlfriend.

“I’ve never let so much access to cameras in my life. They’re there day and night,” Hilton told CNS. “Of course, there’s a lot of things I can’t believe that I’m gonna be showing on TV. I never thought I would cry on TV.”

Hilton has her own problems, including a breaking and entering of her home in the show’s first episode, as well as boyfriend trouble and even Charlie Sheen trouble. That’s right. His addiction-fighting ex Brooke Mueller also adds some drama to the mix.

“I think on my other shows, I just wanted everything to be perfect. But that’s not how life is,” Hilton said. “In life, people go through things, people get upset, things happen. Even though it’s embarrassing for people to watch you cry, it’s what happens.”

While there’s still plenty of paparazzi flashes and red carpet events, Paris shows that she isn’t the super-spoiled party girl of yesteryear. At 30, she’s showing fans that she’s grown up.

“I’m excited for everyone to see me in my real world, with my real friends, my family, my boyfriend,” Hilton says. “So people are really going to get to see me in my own environment, which they haven’t before.”

“The World According to Paris” premieres on Oxygen Wednesday at 10/9 C.

NBC networks announce extensive Royal Wedding coverage

Los Angeles, CA, United States (AHN Entertainment) – NBC is planning hours upon hours of coverage on the Royal Wedding between Prince William and Kate Middleton. They call it comprehensive, we call it exhaustive.

Among the programming set to air on ABC is primetime special “Inside the Royal Wedding,” which airs Wednesday, April 27th at 8pm ET. The special, hosted by NBC News’ Matt Lauer and Meredith Viera, is an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the much-talked-about event.

NBC’s “Today Show” will begin reporting live from London beginning April 22nd, a full week before the wedding day. Meredith Viera heads to London to begin broadcoasts on the 25th, while Matt Lauer, Al Roker, and Ann Curry join in on April 28th and the 29th.

The “Today Show” wedding day broadcast begins on the April 29th at 4am/ET across all time zones. “Weekend Today” will also be anchored from London.

“Dateline” will air on a two-hour documentary, hosted by Ann Curry, on April 29th at 9pm ET. Even Brian Williams will head to London to broadcast his “Nightly News” beginning Wednesday, April 27th.

“Access Hollywood” and “Access Hollywood Live” will also broadcast their Royal Wedding coverage beginning Monday, April 25th, with Billy Bush heading to various spots all across London to cover all the juicy details.

Not to be outdone, Martin Bashir and Chris Jansing will begin MSNBC’s live coverage of the Royal Wedding on the special day at 3am/ET. MSNBC’s “Martin Bashir, “Jansing & Co.,” “Way Too Early,” and “Morning Joe” will all feature London coverage beginning Monday, April 25th.

Still haven’t had your fix? Other NBC/Universal networks providing coverage of the wedding include E!, Bravo, Telemundo, and yes, even The Weather Channel, which will have all the latest forecasts and weather from London.
