Wicked the musical is not wicked the novel

The Wicked Witch of the West, Elphaba, was born with a pea-green skin and is considered to be smartest but misunderstood Witch of The Land of Oz. In contrast to her, Glinda the Good Witch is a ravishing and somewhat snooty witch of the region( and not quite what you would expect). Both girls meet in the Land of Oz as the most spectacular musical of the year, “Wicked”, begins. Check out the details of wicked tickets here, and get hold of cheap wicked tickets now.

Wicked is based on one of the best selling novels, “Wicked: the Life and Times of the Wicked Witches of the West”, written by Gregory Maguire. Gregory Maguire creates a fantasy world so rich and vivid that we will never look at the land of the Oz the same way again. In many ways, it’s a contemporised’, satirical commentary on Oz. Ignoring the obvious ones like a land where animals talk and strive to be treated like first-class citizens. Or the short Munchkins who seek the comfort of middle-class stability, and the Tin Man who becomes a victim of domestic violence. We focus on the little green-skinned girl named Elphaba, who will grow up to become the infamous Wicked Witch of the West. The Wicked witch is a smart, prickly, and misunderstood creature who challenges all our preconceived notions about the nature of good and evil. The story grows more interesting and to enhance your interest, we have some hot seats for you in all theaters. Get discount on wicked tickets for all theaters hosting this play. An astonishingly rich re-creation of the Land of Oz, this book retells the story of Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West, who wasn’t so wicked after all. Taking readers past the yellow brick road and into a phantasmagoric world rich with imagination and allegory, Wicked just might change the reputation of one of the most sinister characters in literature. Check out the details of wicked tickets Chicago and buy the wicked Broadway tickets now. Also check out: we offer you Houston, TX tickets to any wicked performance. Wicked has enthralled millions of spectators in every theater, if you want to be one of them, than buy tickets to Wicked now, and be a part of the crowd. Maguire’s story begins with a moral about understanding and appreciating differences among people and then becomes a cautionary tale of people in power creating monster villains to distract from their own misdeeds. In the course of the story, he shows that what is a monster to some is a humble, self-sacrificing hero to others. “I’ll get you my pretty and your little dog too” is what we all remember from the movie. Wicked twists this tag line, and manages to change our perspective. It is hard not to fall in love with Elphaba, and not start dreading her fate. A fate that we all know well from the movie!

Check out the hottest theaters that are hosting the exotic play. We present wicked’s Chicago tickets, Bushnell wicked tickets, Kennedy center wicked tickets, theater tickets for wicked Florida, Boston Opera house wicked tickets, wicked tickets NY as well as wicked tickets in Philadelphia.

The Wicked fairytale is brought to life by the Academy Award winner, Stephen Schwartz’s music and lyrics and the musical staging by the Tony Award winner Wayne Cilento. The direction of, by 2003 and 2004 Tony Award winner, Joe Mantello, has made the Wicked one of the spectacular plays of the year. Wicked Tickets are in high demand!

With a cast led by Broadway legend Ben Vereen, TV icon Rue McClanahan and breakthrough stars Shoshana Bean and Megan Hilty, there’s never been a better time to visit the Emerald City! The twists and turns in Gregory Maguire’s incredibly imaginative back-story to ‘The Wizard of Oz’ makes the audiences literally gasp with delight. But not only that, Wicked is a truly heartfelt story of friendship and love. As Richard Zoglin of ‘Time Magazine’ put it, “If every musical had a brain, a heart and the courage of Wicked, Broadway really would be a magical place!”

The plot focuses on the witches of Oz prior to Dorthy’s arrival from Kansas. The Wizard (Joel Grey) believes in “The Big Lie” and he practices what he preaches, making everyone believe that the show’s heroine, the Wicked Witch of the West, is evil. Wicked is an ambitious musical intended to satisfy both adults and children, with strong themes in a surprisingly complex book by Winnie Holzman. Throwaway lines that get big laughs are peppered throughout the script.

The scenery and costumes of the Wicked spring forth in fairytale colors, allowing children to enjoy the show also. Parents can enjoy the comical dialogue and masterful lyrics. The fairytale is complete with cameos by the Tin Man, Scarecrow, and Cowardly Lion, while The Wizard, acts as the catalyst that ultimately turns the former friends into the witches that they become. The process of bringing “Wicked” to stage was no easy engineering feat. Costing 14 million dollar, the play’s production involved over 150 people and took almost two years to become a reality. Built in Calgary, Ontario the show’s complex set took over a year and a half to design and had to travel over 1,500 miles to the Curran Theatre in San Francisco.

Wicked the musical is not wicked the novel. While the novel is its source, the musical presents only pieces of it, in a much simplified form, and often diverging wildly from the novel’s narrative. One might be tempted to think all this destroys the work; but in the end it enhances it. Wicked the musical puts the spot light on the story’s numerous ironies and interlaced levels of social commentary. The fiesta continues for 2 hour 30 minutes of utter magnificence. You can’t bear to blink your eye during the whole gala, for fear of missing some of Wicked’s glory!

Fans of Gregory Maguire’s novel “Wicked” may criticize the changes made by stage adapter Winnie Holzman. She finds a way to send Elphaba and Fiyero into a bittersweet sunset together, and she establishes several reference points to the familiar ‘Wizard of Oz’ film that are not in the Maguire book. But most theatergoers will find Wicked well worth the big ticket price. It’s an astoundingly good show that puts its politics front-and-center, all wrapped up in a big, entertaining package. A pre-Broadway run was opened in San Francisco at the start of 2003. It was not appreciated very well by the locals. In the original cast, Idiana Menzel acted as Elphaba, Kristin Chenoweth as Glinda and Robert Morse played the role of The Wizard. With extensive significant changes, it was reopened later that year at Gershwin Theatre in New York. Morse was replaced by Joel Gray. There were assorted reviews initially but the general mood became a lot more appreciative. The tide completely turned when “Wicked” got the acclaim it really deserved. Wicked was nominated for ten Tony Awards, including the award for the best Musical. Menzel got the award of the Best Actress in a Musical. The cast also nabbed a Grammy Award for the Best Musical Show Album.

This fantasy-filled musical was the winner of three 2004 Tony Awards including prizes for Best Costume Design and Best Scenic Design. Wicked also had the privilege of being the winner of 2004 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Musical Award! The uphill effort and zealous exertion of Joe Mantello has made Wicked a true spectacle for the eyes and ears! The popularity of this musical result in long lines to buy Wicked show tickets! The only element of the production that isn’t consistently first class is Schwartz’s songs. The tunes are a mixed bag, with several bland and forgettable power ballads included with his more distinctive and finely crafted songs. Most of the music rides on the same middling tempos, and little stands out melodically.

“Wicked” earned back its entire initial investment by December 21, 2004. In its first year it grossed more than 56 million dollar. The show has been playing to capacity crowds for almost every recent performance and grosses more than a million dollars every week. The show had a 14 million dollar capitalization. The show set out for extensive national touring in 2005. Successful tours were made to Toronto, Chicago, Denver, Dallas, Los Angles, Fort Lauderdale and Hartford. In late June of 2005 a permanent production of “Wicked” separate from the national tour, opened at Chicago’s Oriental Theatre with an open-ended run. “Wicked” will be the first show in decades to run on a permanent basis simultaneously on Broadway and in Chicago’s North Loop theatre district. The show also has a heart, a brain, and the nerve to have opened on Broadway. Wicked is a must see show.

Wicked co-producer David Stone reported that the show, which plays the 1,800-seat Gershwin Theatre, had a 26 million-dollar advance. “The advance and the weekly grosses are now higher than they have ever been,” said Stone. The musical took in 1,196,658 dollar more than any show on Broadway! No surprise, given it’s popularity among the literati and the glitterati. And the relative difficulty in obtaining tickets. Don’t forget that we are offering cheapest wicked tickets online, providing you with an opportunity to get hold of broadway tickets to wicked in your own city. Kristen Davis Would Like To Star In Third SATC Film

Joanna Mazewski – News Room Administrators Editor

New York, NY, United States (NewsBahn) – Perhaps she’s just looking for another paycheck? Despite their second film’s poor showing at the box office and overall dismal reviews, actress Kristen Davis says she wouldn’t mind filming a third installment for the “Sex and the City” franchise.

Davis, who played quirky Charlotte in the hit HBO show, tells Britain’s Daily Mirror: “There are no plans that I know of but I would love to do a third film.”

She adds: “We all want to do it, I guess it’s just figuring out whether it’s the right thing to do and if we can move the characters further any more.”

Although the first “Sex and the City” film was a hit back in 2008 with rave reviews and die-hard fans excited to see Carrie and friends on the big screen, the second film released earlier this year failed to generate the same buzz.

Some reviewers panned the film, calling it “a marathon viewing of an entire seventh season that should have never been made.”

Meanwhile, Davis is currently working on a new sitcom for ABC. She says the producers are “writing a script at the moment and it’s from a book called ‘The Happiness Project’.”

Time Warner Cable Increases Profits, Loses Subscribers

Anne Lu – AHN Entertainment Contributor

New York, NY, United States (AHN) – Time Warner Cable has released its third quarter earnings, showing that while its profits have increased, they have lost 155 video subscribers. According to their data, the profits took a hike after the company increased its price, though it has blamed the bad economy for losing subscribers.

Revenues increased 5.2% from the third quarter of 2009 to $4.7 billion. And although high-speed data subscribers grew by 104,000 and their digital phone subscribers increased by 34,000, they lost 155,000 of their video subscribers.

The company said that the primary reason for the loss was the economy and the competition from new video offerings from Verizon and AT&T, but it was not due to cord-cutters, or those people who ditch cable TV for Web video.

Time Warner Cable is not the only one who lost subscribers. Comcast also reported 275,000 customers who discontinued the video service.

Contrite Sanchez Issues Apology To Stewart for “Inartful” Comments

Ayinde O. Chase – AHN News Editor

New York, NY, United States (AHN) – Fired CNN correspondent Rick Sanchez broke his silence Wednesday regarding the comments that cost him his job. In a statement, Sanchez said he had apologized to “Daily Show” host Jon Stewart for his “inartful comments” and confirmed he had a “very good conversation” with the TV satirist.

The statement comes a day after Sanchez’s wife posted on her Facebook page that he had spoken to Stewart.

On Sept. 30. while on a radio interview Sanchez called Jewish comedian Stewart a “bigot,” and then said “a lot of people who run all the other networks are a lot like Stewart.”

Sanchez wondered aloud whether American Jews are “an oppressed minority.” CNN issued a statement the next day that he was terminated.

Time Warner CEO Jeff Bewkes also took time to address the termination of Sanchez during an appearance on Fox News on Wednesday. He spoke graciously of Sanchez and even implied Sanchez could possibly return to the company in the future. “He did a lot of good work for CNN, and anything is possible.”

Sanchez’s full statement follows.

“On October 4th, I had a very good conversation with Jon Stewart, and I had the opportunity to apologize for my inartful comments from last week. I sincerely extend this apology to anyone else whom I may have offended.

“As Jon was kind enough to note in his show Monday night, I am very much opposed to hate and intolerance, in any form, and I have frequently spoken out against prejudice. Despite what my tired and mangled words may have implied, they were never intended to suggest any sort of narrow-mindedness and should never have been made.

“In the aftermath of these comments, CNN and I have decided to part ways. However, I want to go on record to say that I have nothing but the highest regard for CNN and for my six wonderful years with them. I appreciate every opportunity that they have given me, and it has been a wonderful experience working for them. I have tremendous respect for everyone there, and I know that they feel the same about me. There are no hard feelings, just excitement about a new future of opportunities.

“I look forward to my next step with great anticipation. In the meantime, I will continue to promote my book, ‘Conventional Idiocy,’ in the hopes of broadening the discussion to get a better understanding between all Americans, regardless of race, creed or religion.”

“So You Think You Can Dance” Kicks Off Eighth Season Auditions In Oakland

Anthony Jones – AHN Entertainment Reporter

Los Angeles, CA, United States (AHN) – While it seems like Lauren Froderman just took the title of America’s Favorite Dancer (and danced off with $250,000), the auditions for a brand new season of “So You Think You Can Dance” are ready to kick off yet again. Entering its eighth season, the hit Fox show will start its search for the country’s next best mover and shaker in October.

While auditions for California talent usually took place in L.A.’s Orpheum Theatre, the eighth season of the show will expand its reach by heading to Oakland’s Paramount Theatre of the Arts on Wednesday, October 13th. There, the dancers will show-off their skills in hip-hop, jazz, and whatever they’ve got in front of co-creator, executive producer and judge Nigel Lythgoe and company.

The second auditions location is also set for Brooklyn, NY. After heading to the Bronx last year, “So You Think You Can Dance” finds itself in another local borough to find the best pool of New York talent. The judges will head to the BAM Howard Gilmore Opera House on Monday, November 15th.

“In addition to discovering fantastic new talent, ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ has introduced viewers to the young, edgy, incredibly creative side of dance we hadn’t seen before on television,” Nigel Lythgoe said in a statement. “From the Emmy-winning choreography to the amazing contestants, ‘Dance’ is a cultural phenomenon, and we’re excited that it will be back for another season.”

More audition dates, cities, and venues will be announced at a later date and will take place in early 2011. The eighth season of “So You Think You Can Dance” will is currently set to premiere on Fox in the Spring of 2011.

Elle Magazine Responds To Gabourey Sidibe Cover Shot Controversy

Anne Lu – AHN Entertainment Contributor

New York, NY, United States (AHN) – Elle magazine has responded to the controversy surrounding Gabourey Sidibe’s cover shot. The magazine has been criticized for allegedly lightening the 27-year-old Academy Award nominee’s skin color on purpose.

Sidibe is one of the four young celebrities who appear on four separate covers of Elle’s 25th anniversary issue. Megan Fox, Amanda Seyfried, and Lauren Conrad are the three other girls chosen by the magazine as examples of young women who are “changing the world.”

But instead of receiving praises for its efforts, Elle is being criticized for apparently lightening Sidibe’s skin. Its decision to crop the actress’ image at chest level is also being questioned when the other girls receive a wider shot.

But the magazine is denying any of the claims.

It said in a statement obtained by the Telegraph: “We have four separate covers this month and Gabby’s cover was not retouched any more or less than the others.”

“We had 25 cover-worthy subjects in our portfolio and we chose Gabby because of who she is. We shot this as a story of exuberant young women changing the world. If you take a look at the portfolio, each of the women were [sic] shot in different ways and for different reasons.”

Editor-in-chief Robbie Myers added to eonline.com, “It sort of boils down to this. At a photo shoot, in a studio, that is a fashion shoot, that’s glamorous, the lighting is different. The photography is different than a red carpet shot from a paparazzi.”

Donald Trump Talks New Recession-Friendly Season Of “The Apprentice”

Anthony Jones – AHN Entertainment Reporter

New York, NY, United States (AHN) – Times are very different than when “The Apprentice” first aired in 2004. Nearly everyone was hit hard by the economy. Even host Donald Trump, who experienced sluggish sales for his Trump Tower in Chicago and failed to pay a $40 million loan, and whose Trump Entertainment Resorts filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last year.

Cut to 2010 and “The Apprentice” is suddenly a very different show. All of the contestants have been adversely affected by the economy. Among them, recent college graduates having zero luck in the job market, 40-year-old former breadwinners who recently lost their jobs, and even a truck driver with a Masters in Engineering.

“We have people who went to the best schools and who don’t have a job and people who once had really good jobs,” Trump told AHN. “In one case, someone who has five kids and now has zero income coming in. It’s both sad and educational. Some were really high flyers and now they’re down and out.”

“We weren’t looking for people who were feeling sorry for themselves, but the common factor in the casting of the show was people who wanted to fight back,” said show creator Mark Burnett.

The prize also seems more lucrative than ever, with the winning contestant landing a job in the Trump Organization with a six-figure salary. The opportunities for the remaining 15 are endless as well, with Project Managers earning one-on-one interviews with top executives and corporate headhunters.

The past few years, Trump has been busy with the hit “Celebrity Apprentice” spin-off, which scored charity wins for Bret Michaels, Joan Rivers, and “America’s Got Talent” judge and Larry King replacement Piers Morgan. But the new season of “The Apprentice” gives a much more real glimpse at corporate America today, reflective of the current state of the world and thereby more relevant than ever.

It’s the first non-celebrity “Apprentice” since 2007 and, like most of its contestants, the show is also looking for a fresh start.

“We have had so many requests from so many people because of the times, because obviously the country is not doing well and economic times are not good,” Trump told AHN. “When we first started ‘The Apprentice,’ it was a big hit, but that was also in a different world. Times were booming. Now times are the opposite of booming. So many people wanted to see this show reflective of the current times and that’s what we’ve done.”

“The Apprentice” airs Thursdays at 10pm ET/PT on NBC.
