Vintage German camera sells for $1.89 million, sets new price record

Vienna, Austria (AHN) – A prototype of a Leica camera built in 1923 was sold for $1.89 million at an auction in Austria on Saturday setting a new price record for a camera.

A private collector from Asia won the bidding for the rare 0-Serie Nr.107, one of 25 Leica cameras auctioned off by WestLicht Photographica Auctions. The camera was built two years before Leicas were sold commercially.

The bidding for the camera started at $286,360 and went on for 20 minutes before the auctioneer declared it sold, according to WestLicht.

The previous record holder for the most expensive camera was a daguerreotype, which was auctioned off for $1.048 million last year. The French brand was the first commercially produced camera.

Newly single Leonardo DiCaprio parties hard in Cannes

Cannes, France (AHN Entertainment) – Leonardo DiCaprio is using his newly found singlehood to celebrate with his friends at the Cannes Film Festival.

The “Inception” star, who recently ended his five-year relationship with Israeli-born supermodel Bar Refaeli, was spotted in France Saturday night looking like he had no trouble getting over her, reports the Sunday Mirror.

“Leo’s gutted about the split with Bar. This time it’s for real and there’s no hope of them getting back together. He wanted to go to Cannes and get away from it all,” a source told the newspaper.

DiCaprio attended several parties over the weekend, including one at which singers Kanye West and Jamie Foxx performed “Gold Digger.”

During the party, the 36-year-old DiCaprio was seen clambering onto a sofa in the VIP section at a makeshift tent on the beach outside the Carlton Hotel to get a better look at the rapper.

DiCaprio watched on with stars such as Jon Hamm, Bradley Cooper, Adrien Brody, Rosario Dawson and Pharrell Williams.

Although a source close to DiCaprio and 25-year-old Refaeli said this is not the first time they have spilt up and got back together, it is believed that this is the final break, especially since neither of them are ready to settle down.

“It was amicable, they’re still friends and they are still talking. They just grew apart and went their separate ways,” the source said. “Neither are ready to settle down, and both have busy careers that have been taking them in different directions.”

Perhaps DiCaprio was enjoying his time off before filming “The Wolf of Wall Street,” a big screen adaptation of corrupt Wall Street trader Jordan Belfort’s 2007 memoir in which he explains how he conned hundreds of millions of dollars from clients in the ’80s and ’90s before he was convicted in 1994.

Although it is not yet confirmed, it is reported that Martin Scorsese has been tapped to be the film’s director.

DiCaprio has worked with Scorsese before in films like “Gangs of New York,” The Departed,” “Shutter Island” and “The Aviator,” which earned DiCaprio his first Golden Globe for Best Actor-Motion Picture Drama in 2004.

NBC networks announce extensive Royal Wedding coverage

Los Angeles, CA, United States (AHN Entertainment) – NBC is planning hours upon hours of coverage on the Royal Wedding between Prince William and Kate Middleton. They call it comprehensive, we call it exhaustive.

Among the programming set to air on ABC is primetime special “Inside the Royal Wedding,” which airs Wednesday, April 27th at 8pm ET. The special, hosted by NBC News’ Matt Lauer and Meredith Viera, is an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the much-talked-about event.

NBC’s “Today Show” will begin reporting live from London beginning April 22nd, a full week before the wedding day. Meredith Viera heads to London to begin broadcoasts on the 25th, while Matt Lauer, Al Roker, and Ann Curry join in on April 28th and the 29th.

The “Today Show” wedding day broadcast begins on the April 29th at 4am/ET across all time zones. “Weekend Today” will also be anchored from London.

“Dateline” will air on a two-hour documentary, hosted by Ann Curry, on April 29th at 9pm ET. Even Brian Williams will head to London to broadcast his “Nightly News” beginning Wednesday, April 27th.

“Access Hollywood” and “Access Hollywood Live” will also broadcast their Royal Wedding coverage beginning Monday, April 25th, with Billy Bush heading to various spots all across London to cover all the juicy details.

Not to be outdone, Martin Bashir and Chris Jansing will begin MSNBC’s live coverage of the Royal Wedding on the special day at 3am/ET. MSNBC’s “Martin Bashir, “Jansing & Co.,” “Way Too Early,” and “Morning Joe” will all feature London coverage beginning Monday, April 25th.

Still haven’t had your fix? Other NBC/Universal networks providing coverage of the wedding include E!, Bravo, Telemundo, and yes, even The Weather Channel, which will have all the latest forecasts and weather from London.

Millions rush to download Mozilla’s new Firefox 4 Internet browser

New York, NY, United States (AHN) – Mozilla officials say that downloads of its new Firefox 4 Internet Web browser exceeded one million in the first three hours after it was released to the public on Wednesday.

In addition, Firefox 4 downloads totaled 7 million in the first 24 hours or nearly triple the 2.4 downloads of Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 9 browser in its first 24 hours of availability last week.

However, Mozilla says that downloads of Firefox 4, at an of 5,000 to 6,000 copies per minute in those first three hours was actually slower than downloads of Firefox 3.6, which averaged 12,000 downloads per minute when it was released in January 2010. Moreover, 8 million users had downloaded Firefox 3.6 within its first 24 hours.

Both Firefox 4 and IE9 use the newest standard for the hypertext language to build websites, HTML 5.

Additionally, both browsers offer accelerated loading of websites.

Aubrey O’Day talks return to reality television on Oxygen’s “All About Aubrey”

Los Angeles, CA, United States (CNS) – Aubrey O’Day was a headlining member of Diddy and “Making the Band”-assisted girl group Danity Kane before she was unceremoniously fired from the group on national television. With MTV’s television cameras having caught her rise to fame, it seems a natural fit that she’d open her life to a camera crew again for “All About Aubrey,” the new Oxygen show which chronicles her musical comeback on her own terms.

Or is it? After her “Making the Band” experience, O’Day escaped to Broadway to star on “Hairspray” and later to Vegas for their sexy musical “Peepshow.” The last we’d heard of Aubrey were an MTV News interview and a few blogs following the split. She says getting back into reality TV was the last thing on her mind.

“Well I think after being fired in Making the Band and Diddy and Danity Kane kind of went under, I felt like that was the last thing I wanted to do,” Aubrey O’Day told CNS. “I had a lot of like anger and frustration toward what I had gone through and a lot of like not understanding the way the business is and things like that that I hadn’t like reached a comfortable position with at that point.”

Now, it’s been three years since Danity Kane released their second and final platinum album, “Welcome to the Dollhouse” and it took Aubrey over a year on stage to start contemplating her comeback to the pop music scene.

She teamed up with famed music manager Johnny Wright, responsible for overseeing the ultra-successful careers of top pop acts like the Jonas Brothers, Justin Timberlake, and Britney Spears. She also hooked up with some of Danity Kane’s songwriters and producers, but this time going it completely alone.

Aubrey says she knows a second shot at fame is even harder than the first, and she then realized that this journey would be yet another chapter in her life that would make for great television.

“You know, we’ve been accustomed to seeing so many girl groups rise to fame and falling in love with them and then however they break up, get dismantled, whatever it may be, it kind of just goes away, disappears, you never hear from them again or maybe you hear from the one that stood out,” Aubrey told us.

“But you never really understand why or even how hard it is to have success a second time potentially on your own. And I really felt like that was a good story to tell and I think Oxygen felt like I was a good person to tell it because of how honest I am with my low moments as well as my highs.”

Aubrey says “Making the Band” was real as far as reality television goes, and she wanted to get back to that same completely unscripted style for “All About Aubrey.” The cameras followed her 24 hours a day and she says she was never handed any outlines or scripts to chronicle her journey as she gets back into the recording studio 4 girls lighter.

“Everything is honest to God the truth of what was happening at that point in my life,” Aubrey says. “And I feel like really blessed and like it really helped a lot to be able to get out all the things that had been like weighing heavy on my heart for so long.”

Fans will be able to see “All About Aubrey” when the show premieres on Oxygen Monday, March 7th at 10:00pm ET.

Carrie Fisher joins Jenny Craig as new celebrity spokeswoman

Los Angeles, California, United States (CNS) – Move over, Jason Alexander and Valerie Bertinelli. Carrie Fisher is the newest celebrity to fight the battle of the bulge with the help from Jenny Craig.

The actress and author has signed up to serve as the company’s spokeswoman and vows to shed 30 pounds with its weight-loss program, according to People magazine.

“I’m fat,” Fisher said. “All the clothes in my closet belong to another chick. They have to make a new alphabet for my bra size.”

When the 54-year-old starred as Princess Leia in the 70′s science fiction hit movie “Star Wars,” she weighed 105 pounds. Fisher said she eventually reached her heaviest at 180.

Last November, Fisher joined the company’s new MetabolicMAX program and has been eating plan-approved meals and exercising five days a week. Reports say she’s already lost 12 pounds.

The actress and author said her weight gain was a combination of bad habits and emotional eating.

“What you gain emotionally, you lose because you feel better. Then whoops, you’re fat! Then, you’re depressed about being fat, and you wind up taking another pill,” she said. “But I had to stop making excuses.”

Fischer had also struggled with drug and alcohol abuse as well as mental illness.

“I look on the Internet and they say, ‘Whatever happened to Carrie Fisher? She used to be so hot and now she looks like Elton John,’” she said. “I was really hurt.”

Fisher has already shot several photos and television commercials for Jenny Craig’s new advertisement campaign, which will launch in February.

Former homeless man turned celebrity in rehab

Los Angeles, CA, United States (AHN) – From rags to (almost) riches to rehab, Ted Williams, the homeless man with the “golden voice” who became an Internet sensation, voluntarily checked into substance abuse rehab for his alcohol and drug addiction after admitting he was still drinking, according to a spokesperson for “The Dr. Phil Show.”

Williams, 53, has been in the spotlight since a reporter videotaped him panhandling on the roadside. Once the video went viral, Williams was offered numerous announcing jobs, including a contract with Kraft Foods.

He said in several interviews he had been sober for two years after years of abusing drugs and alcohol, a problem that tore him away from his family and left him homeless.

His decision to enter rehab came after he had a one-on-one discussion with Dr. Phil McGraw, host of the daytime talk show.

Show officials did not say what facility Williams had entered.

Taylor Swift Scores Lowest-Selling #1 Album On The Billboard Albums Chart With “Speak Now”

Los Angeles, CA, United States (CNS) – Taylor Swift spends another week at #1 on the Billboard albums chart with “Speak Now,” but it’s not all good news. Though a sixth non-consecutive week at #1 is a huge feat for any artist, this week she earns the title of lowest-selling week at #1 in the history of Soundscan sales tracking.

That’s right. Swift earned the stop with a scarily low 53,000 copies. The “Dreamgirls” soundtrack originally held the title back in 2007 when it hit #1 with only 60,000. Now, don’t feel bad for Swift. Her monster-selling album also crosses the 3 million mark in sales, so there’ll be no teardrops on that guitar.

Nicki Minaj jumps back up to #2 this week, selling 39,000 of her “Black Friday” album. Bruno Mars follows in the #3 spot with “Doo Wops & Hooligans,” featuring his current #1 “Grenade,” selling 39,000 copies. Daft Punk’s “Tron: Legacy” soundtrack moves into the #4 spot this week.

Eminem drops down from #2 last week to #5 with “Recovery,” selling 33,000 copies. Rihanna’s “Loud” follows at #6 and Kanye West at #7 with “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy,” both also selling 33,000 copies.

Mumford & Son’s “Sign No More” is at #8 this week with 31,000 copies sold. At #9 this week is Jason Aldean’s “My Kinda Party,” selling 29,000 copies, while the Black Keys find themselves rebounding from #27 all the way to #10, thanks to an “SNL” performance last week, selling

Original South Florida “shock jock” Neil Rogers dead at 68

Miami, FL, United States (AHN) – Radio legend and South Florida media impresario Neil Rogers died Friday morning. He died of congestive heart failure after a long illness.

According to reports he passed away from congestive heart failure at the Vitas Hospice at the Florida Medical Center in Broward Country.

The famed radio man was born Nelson Roger Behelfer on Nov. 5, 1942.

He studied broadcasting in school but opted to work right away in the medium he loved, radio. He was able to garner jobs all over the country but eventually settled at WJNO in West Palm Beach in 1976.

Later he moved to WKAT in Miami Beach and made a landmark decision that literally sent out shockwaves in the broadcasting community. He announced on air he was gay.

Rogers was loud, unapologetic and always spoke his mind. Sometimes his brash persona incited the ire of those who disagreed with him during his no holds barred approach to discussion. However, he always retained the respect of his peers and listeners who he dubbed “Neilies”.

After coming out his notoriety skyrocketed and he was a top personality on the radio for decades. He often mocked station management, feuded with other personalities and even took on religious figures, activists, politicians and celebrities long before the practice was mainstream.

After tenures across the Fort Lauderdale-Miami market he eventually retired in 2009 from Sports WQAM.

Then this past summer he suffered a stroke and heart attack.

His loved ones decided surgery to repair the artery wasn’t worth the risk and pain.

Tribute broadcasts to the legend began on Friday and could be heard across the country.

Neil Rogers was 68.

New Miley Cyrus Racy Pic Hits The Web

Los Angeles, CA, United States (CNS) – Miley Cyrus has vowed to start acting like a role model to her young fans just as her new risqué photo hits online again. A newly found photo features the 18-year-old “Hannah Montana” star with another girl who looks as if she’s licking the actress’ nipples.

Just weeks after her bong video came out, Miley is sure to be the talk of the town once more with the release of a new photo that is considered scandalous for a Disney princess.

The photo features Miley looking innocently at the camera while sitting on a sofa. Another girl, who is said to be an assistant named Denika, pulls at her black dress and pretends to be licking her nipple through her dress.

It is not as shocking as her bong tape or as revealing as Vanessa Hudgen’s nude pics. It is more in the same class as the recently leaked Demi Lovato photos, wherein the “Sonny with a Chance” actress is seen showing off her cleavage while in the company of friends.

Still, with Miley’s recent scandal, this new photo won’t help her image at all.

Also, it is said that she is looking to please her parents by promising to clean up her act. According to National Enquirer, divorcing couple Tish and Billy Ray Cyrus were so disappointed and angry upon learning that their daughter was caught on film smoking on a bong. And because Miley loves her parents so much, she promised to start acting like a real role model.

A source told the tabloid, “Even though MIley is of legal age and able to make her own decisions in most matters, she still remains very close to her parents.”

“After listening to their terrible fears that she’s heading down the wrong path and losing control, Miley made this solemn vow to her parents: She will straighten up and start acting like the role model to young fans that she should be!”
