Internet Music Downloads and the Music Industry

If you are a music lover the Internet music industry has given you access to music like never before. No matter your taste in music, if it’s grooving to the latest hip hop tracks, or relaxing with classicial music, no problem. You can find what you like and download it within minutes.

By using special software you can now legally download just about every song that has ever been written. That’s a lot of music and should keep you happily busy for a good long while.

The Internet really has changed the music industry. At first the music industry powers that be misunderstood the Internet. They ignored it thinking that it was a geekish fad that would soon past. Let the nerds download a few songs from here and there. No matter. How many music loving nerds are out there anyway?

Apparently millions. After just a year or two, as the few nerdy downloads tuned into a flood, the music mogals decided they had better fight back. Thay actually brought lawsuits to bear upon poor average folks who enjoyed listening to music, especially free music they were collecting with peer to peer networks on the Internet. Good hard working folks like your uncle Bob and even Grandmother Beth were served with scary legal papers demanding that they cease all of that Internet music stuff and repent.

But folks love that Internet music. The more the music mogals sued and threw fits over revenue losses the more downloads took place. Millions and millions and zillions of them. Clearly the music bosses were on the wrong side of this issue.

Finally the lights begin to flicker on inside the captains of the music industry’s heads. Perhaps the lights would have come on sooner if they had been thinking clearly about how big a deal the Internet and computers were to become.

But one can’t be too hard on the good music executives. It’s hard for anyone to think too clearly during and after a three martini lunch. Let’s cut the guys some slack here. The gals too if any of them were big shot music execs at the time.

Probably there weren’t big shot lady music executives around as the gals would have realized much sooner that it would be much easier to make the thieving rascals who were stealing all of the good music stuff customers in a different Internet way rather than try to scare them into becoming deaf with frequent threats and letters from expensive lawyers.

But anyhow, the music industry folks finally did realize that the Internet was not going to be a fad after all and that never in the history of this world has there been a better way to distribute a product, especially a product that could be digitilized like music, and distributed worldwide over the Internet at so little cost.

Hey, there’s money to be made if the music goes through the proper Internet distibution channels. Their channels. Those shopping mall stores cost too much to operate anyway.

So what if it took the music industry guys until 2005 to fall into love with the Internet. Now they are in a firm loving embrace and are happy to have zillions of folks from all over the world paying them a little bit every time they download a song or two.

After all when you multiply any little old number times a zillion the total surely does add up fast.

There are still plently of folks who like to download free music but the paid sites are a lot more convienant to use and there is a lot less chance of sucking in some malware, syyware, or some really nasty computer virus during your download. The sound quality will be much better at most of the legal download sites as well, which is important to music lovers, so the pay for downloading model seems to be sound.

The future of music distribution, artists websites, movie distribution, software distribution, in fact anything that can be digitialized and downloaded to your compuer no matter where in the world you are located, looks to be bright.

People everywhere love their music and the Internet is just a dandy way to get it to them fast. And now we have Ipods. And MP3 devices, and more zillions of music loving people using them. The music industry mogals should easily be able to afford those fancy expensive lunches for a very long time.

And of course now they will tell you so. They knew that distributing music over the internet would be a big winner someday. In fact, to hear them tell it now they planned the whole thing.

The Evolution And Future Of Digital Sheet Music

Sheet music began as musical notations written on clay tablets by ancient Babylonians. It was used by the ancient Greeks, survived the Dark Ages, and became an important musical force during the Renaissance Period. With the advent of the printing press, printed sheet music affected the music industry in ways unimaginable by past generations. Yes, the history of sheet music is a long one, at least four thousand years, and it has been a story of evolution and growing dissemination. Yet if all those ancient musicians could see the form that sheet music has taken today, they would find it impossible to fathom. In modern times, sheet music has, like most other forms of communication, joined the digital age.

Beginning in the end of the 20th century, there was a great deal of interest in representing sheet music in a computer-readable format, as well as downloadable files. Software that can “read” scanned sheet music, called music optical character recognition (music OCR), has existed since 1991. Needless to say, this software created a completely new manner of dissemination for sheet music which, in this format, was referred to as virtual sheet music.

Further progress was made in 1998 when virtual sheet music became digital sheet music. The difference between the two is that digital sheet music, for the first time, allows copyrighted sheet music to be purchased via the internet. Additionally, and perhaps more importantly, digital sheet music files can be manipulated and altered as their virtual and hardcopy counterparts never could. Such an attribute makes digital sheet music ideal for instrument changes, transposition, and even musical instrument digital interface, or “midi,” playback. Digital sheet music is the musical notation of the 21st century.

The popularity of digital sheet music has revitalized the sheet music industry, which has been languishing since the invention of the phonograph. Digital sheet music has even made inroads into professional orchestras, which are perhaps one of the most traditional remaining arenas of printed sheet music. In 1999, an electronic system for the coordination of orchestral music was invented by Harry Connick, Jr. This system uses a device with a screen to display the musicians’ sheet music. The advantages of not having to use traditional sheet music during a performance, when the rustle of paper can be very distracting, are easy to see. Other musicians and software engineers continue to experiment with the digital display of sheet music.

Digital sheet music has made musical notation available on a scale the likes of which its creators could never have dreamed. It is the future of sheet music, and no where is this more apparent than with the Mutopia project. Mutopia is a volunteer-run effort to create a library of free content digital sheet music, which is reproduced from old scores that are out of copyright. Although there are only about 1400 pieces of music available at present, this project is makes it easy to imagine that there will come a time in the foreseeable future when digital music libraries will be very, very extensive indeed.

Why “Untalented” People Make The Most Money In The Music Industry…

Why “Untalented” People Make The Most Money In Music…

You want to know why the seemingly untalented people make the most money in music? Because the answer is really simple…

“Untalented” people make loads of cash of music because they are actually VERY talented at doing just one thing…. GETTING IN FRONT OF PEOPLE THAT HAVE DECISION MAKING POWER.

That’s it. Do that, and watch your money, success, and admiration from fans and execs alike shoot through the moon…

Here’s one of the biggest problems I see in this music industry today – even though it’s nothing new.

People with loads of talent just sitting on it….

The best singers are too shy to sing in front of crowds. The best beat makers and producers would rather spend ALL their time in the studio. And really smart and talented business people bury themselves in email and reports.

So fans and artists alike continue to complain about the crappy artists getting the most spins… the same stuff being played on the radio all day… and the untalented singers getting to perform at the Grammy ‘s.

But the solution to this problem is really simple. Be like the “untalented” and GET IN FRONT OF PEOPLE THAT CAN HELP YOU.

If you want to get your music into a movie, then go and meet a music supervisor face-to-face. If you want to get your song on the radio, get in your car and go down to the local radio station. And if you want to meet top execs in the industry and make the best contacts and connections, then get you butt to a music conference!

In fact…. getting to a music conference is probably the best thing you can do for any of the above things I just mentioned… and A LOT more.

Your Instant Link To The Best Music Conferences This Year
There are tons of music conferences, and networking opportunities out there… so you really have no excuse not to succeed and make as much money as you want in music this year.

All you have to do is make the decision to do something, and you’re already half way there.

You have the tools. Now go and use them.

All the best my friend.

Create a Music Business – Turn Your Passion Into Your Career

One characteristic most successful people have in common, is that they all manage to find a way to make a living doing what they most enjoy. For example, a famous actor finds a way to make acting his life career, a successful business man build his own business, a music producer turns his music studio into his full-time business.

So if, music is your passion– One must find a way to make a living in the music industry. One of the things we hear a lot from local music bands today is: “It is too hard to make money these days as a musician.” Yet, every day we are seeing new artists emerging in the industry, selling millions of tracks, records, and winning Grammys. The music industry Is a multi-million industry; so there will always be money in it, the only difference is that today record labels are not taking the same chances as before signing new artist.

The reason why so many independent artists struggle in their music career is because their lack of business knowledge. The most common mistakes musicians make in the music industry: Is not to learn about the music business itself. Most musicians despite the business side of the industry, and tend to focus only on making music. Unfortunately, this why so many talented musicians have no other option, but to get regular jobs, and take music just as a hobby, and not as a career. The excellent news is that everyday new music artists are turning their music into their business.

Once again- the reason why many musicians fail in the business is… Musicians seem to dislike paper work, or anything that has to do with learning about the entertainment industry. They will do anything to stay away from the business world. The young musician believes they will join a band, write some songs and get a free recording contract. After a brief whirlwind tour, they will return to their beach house where they spend their days partying with Super Models. In music, money and fame scenario, this dream seems to forget about the money.

Why the shame?–That is the lifestyle thrown at us from music videos. Any independent musician who is passionate about their craft is always researching their contemporaries (other popular artists). They know what is happening in the popular music scene. You have to if you want to make money with music. Unfortunately, this is all that the independent musician is exposed. Their view of the music world lies in the “bling bling” that coats the business side of music like a plastic wrapper coats candy. If you were studying classical music, you would have a completely different outlook on your music career.

How to get signed to a Metal Label

If you are in a metal band and you are looking to get signed to a record label the very advice that might work for “pop” artists just doesn’t work for you

For example I always see record industry people saying “Be Unique” – WTF? does that mean exactly? Smear sh#t all over yourself and bang a trash can lid ? Yeah thats Unique but that isn’t going to get you signed.

In fact I swear that half the time I see bands getting signed is because they ARE NOT uinque? Ya know what I am saying , The Grunge Movement, Nu-metal, Screamo etc – do I have to go on?

Another “great” piece of advice that most people in the music industry give is to make sure you have “Talent” Um yeah ok – what does that mean – I am sure that if you played the average “Simon Cowell” type of record industry dude some Early Low fi Norwegian Black Metal he would think it is just useless noise and the Black Metal scene and all the countless bands it has spawned would have never come about. In fact the Norwegian Government actually acknowledges Norwegian Black Metal is a legimate industry and worldwide export!

The bottom line with “having talent” is it is debtable at best – in my opinion most of the so called “stars” who sell millions of records have very little talent, if any at all.

Another Gem of wisdom the supposed “experts” like to give bands looking to get signed is to cut a demo. I will agree with this – Making demos is a very useful way to get your songs down and for everyone to listen back to how you actually sound as opposed to how you think you sound while you are in a rehearsal room and are focussed on palying your parts correctly

But making a demo with the very very slim chance of mailing it off to a record compnay in the hope that some one there in the mail room is going to listen to your demo and hear the genius of what you are doing and rush out and sign you guys is, lets face it – just not going to happen

So what can you do to get a record deal? I mean, it seems like every day of the week metal bands are getting signed.

Well, there are very clear steps on the path to take to get yourself signed, far too many to list here in this article

If you are interested in what it takes to get the attention of a metal label then Check the link below

Music Industry Tackles Illegal Downloading

Music lovers who illegally download mp3 music from the internet are the bane of record producer’s lives. The process has thrown the music industry into admission of huge drops in profit and is an on-going battle.

New techniques are currently being trialled to combat the problem of the illegal mp3 music downloading. One is being backed by massive R & B producer, Timbaland. Recognising that people want cheap, affordable ways to get their mp3 music and using the latest technology to provide this, he has joined forces with Verizon Wireless network in a ground breaking deal to release mobile only music.

Timabaland will release one track per month, only available to subscribers of V Cast, Verizon’s mobile entertainment service. Consumers who want to obtain mp3 music often do so illegally, costing the music industry millions but it has been found that they are more willing to pay anything up to 3 pounds for a track downloaded to their mobile phone.

R & B songs are the hot favourite for music downloads and ringtones of late and Timbaland will be putting his tracks into the public domain for a bargain price of 1 pounds per track. It is perfectly legal to then transfer this music to a computer, thus reducing the need for the more risky way to collect mp3 music.

It seems music downloads to mobiles is the way to go as these types of sales rose by 32% in Japan last year, bringing with it an 87 pounds million industry. The UK has the largest concentration of mobile phones which are music enabled but consumers are restricted by download prohibitions. Leading the way here is Nokia who are to provide a service with unlimited downloads and it is hoped this will kick-start the industry here.

More legal solutions to consumers who wish to download mp3 music are coming from the Far East with Google’s new feature it is preparing to add to its Chinese search site. It is a system whereby it will be legal to download music and keep it in whichever format you wish. The money will be made from advertising. The idea is to use free music to help sell ads and then split the proceeds with music copyright owners.

It is reported that Google have already managed to get Universal Music Group on board with this idea but some believe this to be questionable. They are currently trying to gain the support of other music companies and calm their fears that they will lose out. Legitimate music sales in China are minimal so it really shouldn’t affect the business that much, other than to improve it.

More news from China regarding the consumers who like to download music is the latest invention dubbed an ‘ePod’ or ‘green Pod’. It comprises a wind up mp3 music player that is environmentally friendly. Saving on electricity usage this latest gadget can be recharged by the use of a wind up handle on the back.

One minute’s worth of winding can be enough to support 40 minutes of music listening and can play for an incredible 20 hours before needing a full charge again. The Eco Media Player can store up to 500 songs and also doubles as an emergency mobile phone charger, useful until they bring in the wind up mobile phone that is currently being worked on.

It would seem that the new advances in the industry should benefit fans who are looking for mp3 music as well as record companies and the environment. Consumers should be able to download music as cheaply as possible while remaining within the law, record companies have a choice of ways to supply music while still making a profit and with a wind up music player or phone we can all do our bit for the environment.

Music expert Catherine Harvey looks at the ways mp3 music can be obtained legally. To find out more please visit http://www.mbopmegastore.com/

All You Need to Know to Be a Successful Singer

Singers can consider their careers successful when they have landed a contract with the big boys of the recording industry.  Unfortunately, many singers will never see this level of success because they don’t know the simple keys.  If you are an aspiring singer, looking to find your success, there are a few things you just need to know.

Don’t Give Up -

Yes, it is cliche.  That doesn’t make it any less important.  The reason some singers find success and go on to lead long lives in the entertainment industry while others don’t is quite simple actually…  They stay in the game longer.

Imagine the loss the world of music would have suffered if Nina Simone had given up on her talents in the four years of playing piano and singing at the Midtown Bar & Grill before she signed with Colpix Records in  1959, which formed the beginning of a long music career, spanning 34 years and several recording labels, with her last album being recorded in 1993 on the Elektra label. When she died in 2003, she was, and still is, a very influential force for many singers, including Elton John and Patti Labelle.

Don’t Be Shy -

Successful singers usually have one common facet…  Shameless self promotion.  It’s ok to get stage fright on occasion but don’t ever be afraid to promote yourself as a singer if you want to see success.  Luckily, the Internet has made this much easier as anyone can create a vanity site for the purpose. Record your sound and post it all over the Internet and don’t be shy about sharing.   By promoting your name as though you were already at the top of the recording charts, you exhibit a confidence that will attract fans, talent agents and success.

You do not have to sell your soul to learn how to write songs or to get a record deal. Visit our sites for more great free information just like this http://www.EZHitSongs.com & http://www.EZRecordDeal.com
