Lady Gaga slams New York Times fashion critic in new column

Anthony Jones – Celebrity News Service Reporter

Los Angeles, CA, United States (Celebrity News Service) – Lady Gaga is serious about fashion and she doesn’t take its criticism lightly. In her latest column for V Magazine, she sends out a memo slamming negativity from critics, including New York Times fashion critic Cathy Horyn, and poses the question: when does criticism become “insult and not insight”?

“Doesn’t the integrity of the critic become compromised when their writings are consistently plagued with negativity?,” Lady Gaga writes. “When the public is no longer surprised or excited by the unpredictability of the writer, but rather has grown to expect the same cynicism from the same cynic?”

Lady Gaga does name one critic specifically, Horyn, but not a particular story the pop singer may have found offensive. She does “copy” the memo to her friend Nicola Formichetti, who she collaborated with for Thierry Mugler. For the most part, Horyn had good things to say about the collection.

“What I think is so promising about Nicola Formichetti’s first women’s collection for Mugler is that he created a look for the runway; for magazine stylists like himself; for performers like his friend Lady Gaga, who modeled two outfits at Wednesday’s night show; and for the girls who love fashion and always have some place to go,” Horyn said about the collection back in March, also noting that Gaga “worked it” on the runway.

Not so negative. Could it have been some negative words said about Gaga’s other friends in the fashion biz such as Galliano or Jean Paul-Gaultier? She doesn’t say. But Gaga wants to put less emphasis on professional fashion critics and more on, well, everyone else who’s got a pulse and an Internet connection.

“In the age of the Internet, when collections and performances are so accessible to the public and anyone can post a review on Facebook or Twitter, shouldn’t columnists and reviewers, such as Cathy Horyn, employ a more modern and forward approach to criticism, one that separates them from the average individual at home on their laptop?” Gaga writes.

Gaga instead names Tavi Gevinson as the “future of journalism,” that infamous 15-year-old fashion blogger who famously began writing for fashion well before she could land a driver’s permit and can now be found sitting front row at some of the biggest runway shows.

You can check Gaga’s full column at the V Magazine website. Meanwhile, we’ll be awaiting Cathy Horyn’s response and maybe a clue as to what angered Gaga so. Did Horyn slam her drag king look at the VMA’s? Or maybe her faux penis accessory?

Anthony Jones – Celebrity News Service Reporter

Los Angeles, CA, United States (Celebrity News Service) – The CW is kicking off its fall season in a big way: with none other than Lady Gaga.

No, she won’t be returning to “Gossip Girl” for another performance. Instead she’s sitting down for an interview with famed fashion designer Jean Paul Gaultier.

Though she’s regularly rocked his designs, it was the first face-to-face meeting for Gaga and Gaultier and cameras were there to capture it all. Taped back in May, the duo covered fame, her fans, and of course, fashion during the hour-long interview.

The special, “Gaga by Gaultier,” is slated to air on the CW on Monday, September 12th from 8pm – 9:15pm ET.

It’ll be followed a preview of the CW’s fall slate, including new and returning shows, hosted by Maggie Q of “Nikita” and Kristoffer Polaha of “Ringer,” the new Sarah Michelle Gellar-starrer premiering the following night.

Rachel Zoe to launch children’s clothing line

Anthony Jones – Celebrity News Service Reporter

Los Angeles, CA, United States (Celebrity News Service) – Celebrity stylist, designer, TV star and all-around fashion maven Rachel Zoe has a new project in the works. She’s working on a children’s clothing line.

Yes, after the birth of her first baby Skyler Berman (which she already tweeted a picture of him rocking his first Louis Vuitton bag), Zoe was inspired to develop a kid’s clothing line that would shut it down on the playground.

Zoe said there just wasn’t a lot of cute boy clothes on the market so she took it upon herself to design thm. “Let me tell you, there’s going to be a lot of boys’ clothes in my line,” Rachel Zoe said on ABC’s Nightline.

Not that the kid is hurting for any looks. He’s already scored a $1,160 bomber jacket from Gucci and 22 pairs of shoes. Baby Skyler, at 4 months, can’t even say Gucci yet.

But the children’s clothing line, combining European chic with American cool, will never leave him scouring for kiid-friendly couture. And the price, Zoe says, will be “attainable.”

While Zoe recently equated debuting her first grown-up fashion line with giving birth, you catch plenty of the new mom and fashion’s first baby when “The Rachel Zoe Project” returns to Bravo on September 6th.

Anthony Jones – Celebrity News Service Reporter

Los Angeles, CA, United States (Celebrity News Service) – Banana Republic is going to help its customers look more dapper than ever, or more Don Draper, that is. The fashion retailer is set to debut a collection of looks inspired by the hit AMC series “Mad Men.”

Banana Republic’s design team is collaborating with Emmy award-winning costume designer Janie Bryant to debut looks for both men and women based on the 60s era resurgence trend, as worn by Jon Hamm, January Jones, and others on the show.

“Working with Janie to gain a true understanding of the ‘Mad Men’ look and feel was a delight,” said Banana Republic Creative Director Simon Kneen. “Janie was instrumental in helping us achieve the series aesthetic and standard of authenticity with this capsule collection, offering sketches, her own inspirations and actual artifacts from the production set to help inspire the ‘Mad Men’ within all of us.”

Among the looks making up over 60 pieces of apparel and accessories hitting stores are tailored suits and knit sweaters for men, plus fedora hats, silk ties, pocket squares, and more. The female looks include high-waisted skirts, dresses, trench coats, scarves, and more.

“Collaborating with Simon and his team to design this collection was an experience I’ll never forget,” Janie Bryant said. “It’s so rewarding to help create a collection that will allow fans of the series to channel their own ‘Mad Men’ style and take home fashionable items that are modern, not costume.”

The collection will hit stateside Banana Republic stores and online on Aug. 11. “Mad Men” returns to AMC for a fifth season in early 2012.
