Jessica Alba welcomes second daughter

Damian Grass – Celebrity News Service Reporter

Los Angeles, CA, United States (Celebrity News Service) – It’s a girl for actress Jessica Alba.

The 30-year-old “Fantastic Four” star announced the birth of her second daughter Haven Garner Warren on Facebook Saturday, reports Us Weekly.

“She was born on Saturday, weighed 7 lbs and was 19 inches long. Healthy and happy!” Alba wrote. “Big sister Honor couldn’t be more excited about the new addition to our family.

“Thank you for all of your support during my pregnancy. It means the world to me,” she posted.

The Pomona, Calif.-native also has a three-year-old daughter named Honor Marie, with husband Cash Warren.

Alba and Warren, who is the son of “Hill Street Blues” actor Michael Warren, met during the filming of “Fantastic Four” in 2004. They married four years later in Los Angeles.

Just last month, Alba told Us Weekly that the couple was still trying to get things ready for the new arrival.

“The nursery isn’t ready. It’s not even close, but I’m accumulating things,” she said. “In the beginning the baby stays with me in the room, so you don’t need the nursery ready so soon. We’re remodeling our house, so it’s going to take a few months. I’m really taking my time.”

Alba will be seen on the big screen on Aug. 19 as a stepmom and retired spy agent who’s called back into action in the film, “Spy Kids: All the Time in the World.”

Websites test expanded Internet addressing system

Windsor Genova – AHN News News Writer

Washington, DC, United States (AHN) – About 200 organizations that include top websites Google, Facebook and Yahoo! tested the new Internet addressing system called IPv6 on Wednesday.

The 24-hour test dubbed “World IPv6 Day” aims to check the operability and security of the system, which will replace the current IPv4. The worldwide test also aims to check the compatibility of the two versions and see how Internet service providers, hardware makers, operating system vendors and web companies can transition to the new system.

Internet addresses created through IPv4 will run out this year and the adoption of the IPv6 is being urged by the test organizer Internet Society because it is capable of creating 340 trillion, trillion, trillion new IP addresses. The IPv4 can only create 4.3 billion addresses or number combinations.

So far, there were no massive disruptions or slowdown of Internet service and hacking, which participants anticipated because of the less secure IPv6.

Ways to Online Music Promotions

If self designing online presence there are some simple blunders that artists, bands and labels make when they first start to build their website, MySpace, Facebook or other social media pages that turns away potential new fans and stops potential sales of their music.

At the very least one gets a free ReverbNation widget and puts it “above the fold” (at the top of your website where visitors can see it without scrolling down). It should be ensured that it is not set to auto play as visitors may also have other music playing when they land on the page, and there is nothing worse than a cacophony of different songs all playing at once on the PC. At the very least the visitor will switch their sound off, or close the site immediately.

Broken and mistyped links are the best way of telling visitors that are too busy to attend to the web presence and sending them elsewhere. They’ll probably think that the music has been given up and will move on. The construction of the website should not be rushed to MySpace, Facebook or other online pages. It should be ensured to take the time to test links carefully, and ask friends to do it too. One of the most common areas that links errors occur is in mail outs or newsletters. A friend should be asked to check the links in the newsletter or mail shot before sending it out, as there is nothing worse than delivering the newsletter twice. At best it looks unprofessional, at worst one will get marked as spam by his fans.

Most artists, bands or labels are quite content using their MySpace page as their main web presence which is a great way to start. However laying out a MySpace page is both restrictive and tricky, and whilst achieving a lot using a professional designer or MySpace profile design tool, if desiring to be taken seriously by the music industry to register own web domain and get a well designed website.

Useful Websites For Online Music Promotions

The websites MySpace, Facebook and other online social media sites should be kept to the point. Bio’s brief should be kept and to the point, make sure it only includes relevant information. It should be ensured to filter only the best reviews, content, pictures, music and other assets for the website; everything should not be pasted just to make it look like there is more background than one has. Less is more, and posting every tenuous piece of information on the web presence will make the page look cluttered, desperate and unprofessional. It should be kept clean, and in high quality.

Music website should be kept on topic. Whilst background information in the Bio may be useful if targeting a certain type of fan and wanting them to feel an affinity, it is not helpful to post the latest updates on Swine Flu, or other non music related information on the website. Visitors will have probably found the website from another online source and are expecting it to deliver what they came there for – the music, so it should be ensured the content of the bands website contains relevant information that serves the visitor’s expectations.

There is nothing that turns off fans and potential sales than a misplaced ego. Whilst it’s important to be confident, getting high and mighty about how great the music is, when that dodgy vocal music haven’t even mixed, mastered or fixed that makes to look silly – period. It should be ensured that everything about the music really lives up to how it is presented online, otherwise the world will take the advice and just “Walk on by”. Sites such as Nimbit, Website Music Player, Reverbnation shop widgets, or other online storefronts too should be tried out which could help drive sales. At the end of the day if there is no ability to purchase from the website or other online touch points, money will be left on the table.

My New Favorite Music Site

Recently I had some trouble finding some songs I wanted on iTunes. Most people know the iTunes database is notoriously bereft of older tunes, or worse yet, foreign tunes or anything not released on a major label. I was lamenting my lot on Facebook when a friend of mine suggested www.legalsounds.com to find the songs I wanted. When I went to the site, not only did I find many of the songs I was looking for, I saw the prices are AMAZINGLY low, as in 9 CENTS A SONG in most cases! That was all it took for me to be sold on the site. To get full songs (and even the uncut or explicit versions, thankfully) for less than most people pay for a ringtone is truly a thing of beauty!

If you want to know what kind of music this site features, I will say it has pretty much every genre and most artists I have ever known. For example, I searched iTunes and amazon.com for the song “My Secret Lover” by the group Private. The video was featured on PerezHilton.com and I fell in love with the song. But when I searched the traditional sites, NO DICE! What I did not know when I saw the group online was that they are not American, so therefore it was impossible to find them on the traditional sites because they weren’t on a mainstream label. Not only did www.legalsounds.com have that song, they had lots of others by the same artist, which was awesome for me! Also, iTunes may have certain artists, like Nine Inch Nails, but often they don’t have all of their releases. I lost my original “Pretty Hate Machine” cd so I went to iTunes to download another copy. Once again I was foiled by their limited database. Not only did www.legalsounds.com have it, the whole album was less then $1! WOOT WOOT!

From what I can tell the site is European, which is why you get access to more than the average database. I have a friend that uses another music download site and even though he can see the foreign remixes and releases, his system won’t let him download them because he is limited to the US database. I don’t know if this is an issue with the currency exchange rates or what, but for people like us who really like dance music, the European market really has more choices so it is important for us to have access to that.

The site takes Visa and MasterCard and basically you prepay for your music. The Visa payments process immediately, but if you pay with MasterCard you have to wait a couple of days for the payment to process. In the meantime, you can still take advantage of the 50 free downloads off the Top 40 charts you get for signing up on the service. When you prepay $39 or more, you get additional free downloads, which is awesome considering you just got a few free downloads when you joined. You can also refer friends and get additional free download credits, so it behooves you to hook up your friends as well. I will say I am VERY thankful to my friend that referred me, so I was quick to return the favor with my family and friends!

Teen cancels birthday party after Facebook invite draws 200,000 guests

Windsor Genova – AHN News News Writer

Sydney, Australia (AHN) – An Australian teenage girl has canceled her 16th birthday party after a Facebook invitation she posted drew 200,000 would-be guests within two days. Police later found that an impostor recreated the girl’s Facebook invitation to lure thousands of users of the social networking site.

The girl originally intended to have schoolmates as her guests when she posted the invitation that included her home address and mobile phone number. The invitation also mentioned she could allow friends of schoolmates to attend the open house party if they inform her.

Some 20,000 people responded to the invitation within 24 hours and by Tuesday, 200,000 had accepted the invitation scaring the girl, who called the police. The girl and his father immediately canceled the party.

An investigation found that the invitation was reposted by an impostor, who was later identified as a 17-year-old student from north Sydney.

The student was arrested and charged with using the Internet to harass a person under the Commonwealth Criminal Code Act. The student, whose computer was confiscated by police, is facing three years imprisonment if found guilty of the charge.

Using Twitter to Promote Your Music

With all the buzz and popularity surrounding different social networking mediums, it’s nearly impossible to ignore the impact these websites make in today’s music scene. Your information, updates, releases, photos, and thoughts can be broadcast across the internet for millions to see, effectively conveying news to old and new fans alike. Even better, all of this promotion is essentially free with the cost of an internet connection, which nearly everyone has access to these days.

Enter Twitter, the 140 character posting machine capable of attracting thousands of followers and connecting you to people across the globe. Easy to use, and quickly becoming just as popular as Facebook or MySpace, this is one tool every artist should add to their repertoire for generating publicity and interest. Strangely addictive and remarkably useful, Twitter is a great method of sharing thoughts, reviews, links, and news.

A crucial aspect of utilizing Twitter to your advantage is the slimmed down length of the posting. Instead of full length blog posts, press releases, or reviews, the info is shortened, forcing you to only share the most important info with fans and followers. This helps to create succinct, flowing updates which aren’t too wordy or cumbersome to read, giving people the updates they’re searching for as quickly as possible. Becoming a skilled Twitter user can generate more followers of your profile, who will see each and every one of your musical tweets.

The advent of smart phones, especially Blackberrys and iPhones makes Twitter even more effective, as people are beginning to use their advanced mobile devices to follow social networking on the go. A myriad of applications are available for most phones, allowing you to update, view, and tweet to your heart’s content no matter where you are.

Remember, social networking sites are your friend, as long as they’re used properly. Be smart about what you write online, especially while posting personal information, but don’t be afraid to share your thoughts or pertinent info regarding musical endeavors. Over time, your Twitter followers will grow, as will the audience your posts reach, making it an effective tool which nearly anyone can take advantage of. Use keywords, witty comments, and post regularly to keep fans coming back for more.
