Akon “Disagrees” With Will.I.Am Over Posthumous Michael Jackson Album

Anthony Jones – AHN Entertainment Reporter

Los Angeles, CA, United States (AHN) – Akon and Will.I.Am were both working with Michael Jackson before he passed on what was to be his latest studio album. Jackson’s first posthumous release “Michael” hits stores next month but Will.I.Am says the release is “disrespectful,” while Akon doesn’t agree.

Akon’s duet with the late Michael Jackson “Hold My Hand” is the lead single off his posthumous album “Michael.” Jackson left a handwritten note with the Estate that he wanted “Hold My Hand,” recorded back in 2007, to be released as the first single off his next project.

Jackson got his wish as “Hold My Hand” will lead off “Michael,” an album of ten leftover tracks including “Monster” with 50 Cent, “Another Day” with Lenny Kravitz, and the controversial “Breaking News,” which left fans puzzled that Michael’s vocals had been tampered with beyond recognition.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Will.I.Am says a Michael Jackson album without Jackson’s finishing touch shouldn’t be released. “Whoever put it out and is profiting off of it, I want to see how cold they are to say that what he contributed during his life wasn’t enough,” Will.I.Am said. “He just wasn’t any ordinary artist. He was a hands-on person. To me it’s disrespectful. There’s no honoring.”

Akon says he “honestly disagrees.” “That’s probably Will’s opinion, Akon told TMZ in an interview. “Me personally I think it’s keep his legacy alive.”

“I don’t see anything disrespectful about it … These albums would have come out if he was alive or dead so I think this helps to keep his legacy alive,” he continued.

“Michael,” the first album of unreleased material from Michael Jackson following his death last year, hits stores on December 14th.

Former President Bill Clinton Joins “The Hangover 2″ Cast

Anne Lu – AHN Entertainment Contributor

Bangkok, Thailand (AHN) – The cast and crew of “The Hangover 2″ may have kicked out Mel Gibson from their film, but they’ve added another star. Former President Bill Clinton was spotted in Thailand to film a cameo spot with the guys.

Clinton will be playing himself in the comedy sequel. A source close to the ex-U.S. leader told People magazine that he shot his brief appearance on Saturday in the capital Bangkok, where he also delivered a speech on clean energy for a separate engagement.

TMZ sources said the production added security for Clinton’s protection.

Just recently, Gibson was supposed to appear in a cameo role for the film, but the cast and crew apparently protested the scandal-ridden actor’s involvement. He was subsequently replaced by Liam Neeson.

The Todd Phillips-directed “The Hangover 2,” the sequel to the 2009 hit comedy, will star Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Justin Bartha, Ken Jeong, and Zach Galifianakis. It is slated for a May 2011 release.

AMC Shuts Down “Rubicon”

Anne Lu – AHN Entertainment Contributor

Los Angeles, CA, United States (AHN) – AMC is shutting down “Rubicon.” The cable channel has announced that it is not renewing the conspiracy thriller for a second season amid low viewers’ ratings.

The show stars James Badge Dale as William Travers, an intelligence analyst who discovers that he may be working with members of a secret society that manipulates world events for profit. It debuted in June and ran 13 episodes.

AMC said in a statement, “Rubicon gave us an opportunity to tell a rich and compelling story, and we’re proud of the series. This was not an easy decision, but we are grateful to have had the opportunity to work with such a phenomenally talented dedicated team.”

Executive producer Henry Bromell told TVGuide.com, “I just don’t believe in wrapping it up that simply,” referring to season one’s open-ended finale when Will accused his boss of conspiracy even though he didn’t have any hard proof.

“It’s not interesting drama. It’s a little more conventional, a little easier… The truth is, that it’s not that easy to stop the bad guys.”

Nancy O’Dell Named Mary Hart’s Replacement On “Entertainment Tonight”

Anne Lu – AHN Entertainment Contributor

Los Angeles, CA, United States (AHN) – Mary Hart’s replacement has been named. Former “Access Hollywood” host Nancy O’Dell will take the place of the Hart’s about to be vacated seat on “Entertainment Tonight.”

O’Dell said in a statement, “I remember watching Entertainment Tonight when it first premiered and dreaming about working for the show someday! It is the original and the gold standard of entertainment news show.”

“Needless to say, I am thrilled that my dream has come true. I have greatly admired the show and the incomparable and esteemed Mary Hart – her quiet power and professionalism are beyond admirable. I am honored to be the one chosen to fill a TV legend’s seat and I hope I can ‘do her proud!’”

In August, Hart announced her plans to leave the entertainment TV news program after almost 30 years in 2011. The current season is her last.

And although she said that leaving the job she held for three decades is “not an easy decision,” Hart takes comfort in knowing that she will pass the baton to O’Dell, whom she calls a “talented and respected entertainment correspondent.”

“We have spent many years working on opposite sides of the celebrity battlefield and I know the show will flourish with Nancy as co-anchor.”

O’Dell will take on the role in January alongside co-host Mark Steines.

Time Warner Cable Increases Profits, Loses Subscribers

Anne Lu – AHN Entertainment Contributor

New York, NY, United States (AHN) – Time Warner Cable has released its third quarter earnings, showing that while its profits have increased, they have lost 155 video subscribers. According to their data, the profits took a hike after the company increased its price, though it has blamed the bad economy for losing subscribers.

Revenues increased 5.2% from the third quarter of 2009 to $4.7 billion. And although high-speed data subscribers grew by 104,000 and their digital phone subscribers increased by 34,000, they lost 155,000 of their video subscribers.

The company said that the primary reason for the loss was the economy and the competition from new video offerings from Verizon and AT&T, but it was not due to cord-cutters, or those people who ditch cable TV for Web video.

Time Warner Cable is not the only one who lost subscribers. Comcast also reported 275,000 customers who discontinued the video service.

“Teen Mom” Stars’ Per Season Salary Reportedly Over $60,000

Anne Lu – AHN Entertainment Contributor

Los Angeles, CA, United States (AHN) – The young stars of MTV’s “Teen Mom” earn $60,000 to $65,000 per season, it has been reported. The cash is allegedly the reason why on-again, off-again couple Amber Portwood and Gary Shirley can’t walk away from the show, despite the negative publicity they have been getting.

A series insider told Life & Style that the stars make $60,000 to $65,000 per season. But even though this figure is enough to provide Amber and Gary with comfortable lives, they are still constantly in short of cash as neither one knows how to save.

Jordan Sanchez, Gary’s best friend told the magazine, “Gary says he’s broke. The money is the only reason he’s willing to do the show. You can’t walk away from money like that.”

The couple have already started filming the next season of the show in Tennessee. They are reportedly planning to move to Florida with daughter Leah, where Amber’s uncle owns a business.

“Avatar 2,” “Avatar 3″ To Hit Theaters In 2014, 2015

Anthony Jones – AHN Entertainment Reporter

Los Angeles, CA, United States (AHN) – “Avatar” fans are heading back to Pandora, in a few years at least. Academy Award-winning director James Cameron has agreed to make “Avatar 2″ and “Avatar 3″ his next films, with the first sequel due for release in 2014.

Cameron, who had been enticed by other projects such as a “Cleopatra” remake starring Angelina Jolie, will instead make the “Avatar” sequels his top priority. The news was announced by Fox execs Jim Gianopulos and Tom Rothman Wednesday.

Cameron will begin work on the scripts early next year with production to begin later in 2011. It will be decided if the films will be shot back-to-back after the scripts are completed.

“With two new films on the drawing boards, my company and I are embarking on an epic journey with our partners at Twentieth Century Fox,” said director James Cameron. “Our goal is to meet and exceed the global audience’s expectations for the richness of Avatar’s visual world and the power of the storytelling.”

“In the second and third films, which will be self contained stories that also fulfill a greater story arc, we will not back off the throttle of Avatar’s visual and emotional horsepower, and will continue to explore its themes and characters, which touched the hearts of audiences in all cultures around the world,” Cameron continued. “I’m looking forward to returning to Pandora, a world where our imaginations can run wild.”

Upon its release last year, “Avatar” became the highest grossing film of all-time, earning nearly $2.8 billion at the worldwide box office. It also earned three Academy Awards and became the biggest-selling Blu-ray of all time. A new collector’s edition of “Avatar” on Blu-ray releases next month.

“Avatar 2″ is expected to hit theaters in December 2014, while the sequel is targeted for December 2015.
