Los Angeles, California, United States (CNS) – “Glee” star Lea Michelle may have millions of loyal viewers tuning in every week to see her on the hit Fox television series, but she says her parents weren’t at first her number one fans.
According to reports, the 24-year-old actress says both her parents, Edith and Marc Sarfati, didn’t take their daughter’s dream of becoming a famous singer and actress too seriously and were even critical about her singing.
“I remember asking my mom if she wanted to hear me sing and she was busy, and then my dad pulled me aside, knelt down in front of me and said, ‘Listen, you’re really funny and a great dancer, but you can’t sing.’ I will never let him live that down,” she laughed.
Despite her parents’ lack of encouragement, Michelle went on to star in several Broadway hits, including “Les Miserables,” “Ragtime,” “Fiddler on the Roof,” and “Spring Awakening” before landing the role of Rachel Berry in the popular television musical.
But once her parents realized how serious Michelle was about show business, they supported their daughter every step of the way.
Just last August, mom and dad escorted Michelle to the Emmy’s, where she was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.
This year, Michelle is nominated for a Golden Globe, a Screen Actors Guild and two Grammy awards for her performance in “Glee.”
