Dirty Dancing star, Patrick Swayze, died from his illness last Monday, September 14, 2009, at the age of 57. The actor was diagnosed to have been suffering advanced stage four pancreatic cancer in January 2008. Nevertheless, despite the diagnosis, he continued to work still, putting together a memoir with his wife and shooting “The Beast” where he made the pilot episode. Swayze chose not to use painkillers in the shoot of this A&E drama series. The actor said that it would have taken the edge of his performance. Maybe this decision led the show to have a phenomenal number of viewers raging to 1.3 million viewers for the 13 episodes that ran during the year, but then, A&E decided reluctantly not to continue the show for the next season.
Swayze, in his interview with Barbara Walters says that five years is a wishful thinking. He also said that he wanted to last until people find a cure for his illness, like getting a fire under it. When his illness went public, many had reacted to his situation. Some says he only got weeks to live, but according to his doctor, his condition was considerably more optimistic than that. The actor appeared in a live television event “Stand Up to Cancer” September last year where he touched many hearts when he stated, “I keep dreaming of a future, a future with a long and healthy life, a life not lived in the shadow of cancer, but in the light. … I dream that the word ‘cure’ will no longer be followed by the words ‘is impossible.” He also wrote an op-ed piece in the Washington Post entitled “I’m Battling Cancer. How About Some Help, Congress?”, wherein he pursued to the senators and representatives the maximum funding for the National Institutes of Health for fighting cancer and to make it a part of the economic stimulus package. Clearly, the actor fought up in all the ways he can to overcome this illness. Then maybe, you just cannot tell what would really happen next. Patrick Swayze passed away peacefully with family at his side after facing the challenges of his illness for the last 20 months. Condolences poured out from the fans and co-celebrities who were greatly inspired by his struggle in fighting out his illness.

“Glee” Bully May Remain Closeted, Actor Says

Los Angeles, CA, United States (CNS) – The “Glee” resident bully may never come out of the closet, according to actor Max Adler, who plays the mentioned slushy-throwing Dave Karofsky. He said that he has some ideas about what might become of his character.

Following the “Never Been Kissed” episode earlier this month, Adler has received positive feedback from a lot of fans. The episode revealed the reason for Karofsky’s anger and why he continued to bully the glee club members, especially openly gay student Kurt Hummel (Chris Colfer).

Adler told MTV News that he feels like he is representing a large group of people who are like Karofsky or those who know a Karofsky in their lives.

He said, “I’m really just so thrilled to be able to play this part, and at this point in time in our nation and the world, even. I feel like I’m representing such a large group of people and it’s a crucial time. I don’t know where it’s going to go. I want it to be a great message.”

He has some ideas on what would become of his character, though, saying, “He could join New Directions, he could be a glee-clubber. Of course… he will maybe think about suicide. Just because that’s going on in the nation right now, but I don’t know if they’re going to touch on that and go that deep.”

“I don’t know if there is any redemption [for Karofsky]. I don’t know if he’s ever going to come out. In high school, that’s kind of your world and Karofsky’s fear is for people to find out who he is.”

“Spider-Man” Casts Rhys Ifans As Villain

Culver City, CA, United States (AHN) – “Spider-Man” has found his nemesis in the person of Welsh actor Rhys Ifans. Sony Pictures and Colombia Pictures have announced that the 43-year-old actor will join Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone in the rebooted film, but have declined to reveal which villain character he will be playing.

The film, starring Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and Stone as his first love Gwen Stacy, will focus on Peter’s high school days as he is just starting to develop his superhero abilities.

Director Marc Webb said, “What sets the Spider-Man villains apart is the complexity of their relationships with Peter Parker. Rhys’ incredible ability to embody both warmth and rage makes him the ideal choice for this character.”

Production will commence in December for a July 3, 2012 release date in 3-D theaters.

Ifans is more familiar to American audience as Spike in “Notting Hill.” He will also appear as Xenophilius Lovegood in the upcoming “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” film.
